Dulse

Dulse seaweed (Palmaria palmata) is a red algae with dark red, feathery leaves. When dried, it develops a leathery texture and a pleasant bite. When soaked in water, it regains its original shape and increases in volume – a true superfood from the Atlantic.

What is dulse?

Dulse is a nutrient-rich red algae , also known as sea lettuce. It contains iodine, iron, and magnesium and is traditionally harvested wild in Atlantic regions such as Brittany.

Where does the organic dulse from Algen Markt come from?

Our organic dulse flakes come from Brittany in France. They are wild-harvested there, gently dried below 42°C, and each batch is rigorously tested for heavy metals and microbiology – for the highest quality.

What is dulse good for?

Dulse is a natural source of iodine and minerals and is considered part of the Okinawan diet. It is low in calories, rich in minerals, and is also recommended by nutrition experts such as Anthony William.

How do you use dulse?

Dulse is available as leaves, flakes, or powder . It can be sprinkled dry like herbs over salads and soups, or soaked in water to rinse out excess salt. When fried, its flavor is reminiscent of bacon – hence the name "bacon from the sea".

What does dulse taste like?

Dried dulse has an intense, briny flavor and is suitable as a salt substitute or for vegan fish alternatives. Soaked, it becomes firm to the bite and adds a savory note to dishes.

What products contain dulse?

In our online shop you'll find dulse flakes and powder – for example, in the popular Heavy Metal Smoothie Set by Anthony William , combined with spirulina. All our organic raw algae are carefully harvested and processed in Europe.
